GFCI Electrical Outlet Repair or Installation
Ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet prevents accidental electrocution! They are so sensitive that they will trip at 5-milliamperes which is sensitive enough to protect an infant's heart from electrocution. But a GFCI will not work UNLESS it is wired properly.
Because water conducts electricity, the Canadian Electrical Code requires GFCI outlets in all wet or damp locations such as bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, basements, garages and outdoor receptacles. As well, if your electrical system has not been upgraded for 20 years or more, you probably need to install GFCIs and AFCIs.
While a GFCI outlet or breaker is installed to prevent electrical burns and fatal shocks, AFCIs help prevent electric fires. AFCI is an arc fault circuit interrupter and they help prevent electric fires, caused when electricity leaks out of decaying or damaged wiring. Electric fires, which spread quickly through the wiring behind walls, are very deadly and can cause significant damage.
Arc fault circuit interrupters sense electricity leaking from the wiring and shuts the system down. They also protect against electrical fires caused when appliances such as an iron or clock radio fault. AFCI outlets or circuit breakers are required in most rooms of your house.
We have 30 years of experience so let First Aid Electric's licensed electricians complete your home's electrical inspection and install GFCI and AFCIs for you quickly and safely to keep you, your family and your home out of harms way. Call 403-250-9301 or submit your request online.
IMPORTANT TIP: Test your GFCIs monthly to ensure they are providing protection. Press the TEST button, then RESET button. If the indicator light does not go out and come back on, or if the GFCI cannot be reset, it must be replaced.
